Following God's Call to the Nations
It is amazing to see people answer God's call to the nations. Recently, Alcance celebrated the sending of Maria and Joseph to Peru, where they will take the next step in a journey that began years ago through the Alcance program.
Pilot Program of Alcance
Alcance began in 2020 as a two-year program designed to prepare students for ministry. After completing the program, graduates were sent to three different locations to help plant churches.
Among those early teams were Maria and Joseph. They had originally come from Redu (Chi Alpha). They helped plant a church called "Somos". When I was in Costa Rica for language school, I actually got to meet them and visit the church!
After completing their fourth year online, they received their ordination, equipping them for long-term ministry and leadership.
Preparing to Go
The path to becoming a missionary in Costa Rica involves several important steps. Candidates first apply to the missions program and, after being approved, begin raising the financial support needed for their assignment. Once they have completed that process, they are officially commissioned and sent into the field.
Serving in Peru
Their ministry journey continues in Peru, where they will spend a year studying Bible translation. During this time, they will also work alongside Redu (Chi Alpha), gaining practical experience while preparing for their long-term assignment.
After completing their translation training, they will be sent to serve in an Indigenous community. While the exact location has not yet been finalized, their goal is clear: to help translate Scripture into the local language so that people can encounter God's Word in their own heart language.
Looking Ahead
As Alcance continues to build up the next generation of future pastors and missionaries, I am excited to see how God will use them to share the gospel, strengthen the Church, and make His Word accessible to communities that have never had it before.
